...When he appears in the stage,wearing only a leather pair of trousers,he holds a bottle of red wine and a cigarette...He has hugarisch origins(from his mother) and it's said that his dark charm is due to the blood of the Dracula,which runs in his veins...Ville Valo worked in his father's sex-shop but he was always dreaming of a career in music.He was writing songs which didn't only touch your feelings but they captured you completely and they left their signs on you for ever.
His dream came true whan he met Lily Lazer(guitar),Gas Lipstick(drums) and Zoltan Pluto(keyboard).With their special names,they wanted to give the direction in their group and they name themselves H.I.M.,initials of the words His Infernal Majesty...Valo's songs were about love and death and it was a strange mixture of metal and sweet-bitter pop music.With their first album "Greatest Lovesongs Vol.666",they took a cult direction and they made the critics to talk about a new kind of music,"Love Metal".The outcome was more exciting for H.I.M. when they started recording their second album in London,with John Fryer(White Zombie,Nine Inch Nails,Depeche Mode)as a producer.The emotional pressure was intense during the recording in the Rockfield Studio,where in the past had been recorded many great songs like "Bohemian Rhapsody"(Queen), "What's The Story(Morning Glory?")(Oasis),but as they say it was also the studio where Black Sabbath recorded for the first time...
The gold chance came in 1999,when the fanous producer Roland Emmerich("Independence Day",Godzilla")asked them a song for the soundtrack of a german movie,called"The 13th Floor".And that was!"Join Me",already platinum in Finland,entered in the german charts and Valo started to appear inh the covers of all magazines.The glory of that song(whose complete title is "Join Me In Death")spread out in all Europe and a bit later followed "Razorblade Romance".With more goth elements and a careful production in glamrock style,H.I.M. shows their artistic maturity.Songs which stay in the mind,reflecting from melancholy("Cone With The Sin")till pain("Bury Me Deep Inside Your Heart"),with strong guitaristic riff(check out the adaptation on Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game")with the sign of Ville Valo... |
